چکیده

We investigate a method of selectively targeting cancer cells by means of ultrasound harmonic excitation at their resonance frequency, which we refer to as oncotripsy. The geometric model of the cells takes into account the cytoplasm, nucleus and nucleolus, as well as the plasma membrane and nuclear envelope. Material properties are varied within a pathophysiologically-relevant range. A first modal analysis reveals the existence of a spectral gap between the natural frequencies and, most importantly, resonant growth rates of healthy and cancerous cells. The results of the modal analysis are verified by simulating the fullynonlinear transient response of healthy and cancerous cells at resonance. The fully nonlinear analysis confirms that cancerous cells can be selectively taken to lysis by the application of carefully tuned ultrasound harmonic excitation while simultaneously leaving healthy cells intact.

Naringenin Enhances the Anti-Cancer Effect of Cyclophosphamide against MDA-MB-231 Breast Cancer Cells Via Targeting the STAT3 Signaling Pathway

Naringenin is a natural compound with potential anti-cancer effects against several cancer types.  Also, its precise molecular mechanisms regarding tumor growth suppression has not been completely elucidated. In the current study the apoptosis-inducing and anti-proliferative effects of Naringenin together with cyclophosphamide were studied in breast cancer cells and the participation of JAK2/ST...

Cancer stem cells: therapeutic targets

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been identified as rare cellular populations in many cancers, including leukemia and solid tumors. This minor subpopulation of cancerous cells is immortal tumor-initiating cells which thought to be responsible for cancer initiation, progression, metastasis, recurrence and drug/radiation resistance. Low proliferative rate, high self-renewing capacity, differentiatio...

Induction of Apoptosis by extract of Persian Gulf Marine Mollusk, Turbo coronatus through the ROS-Mediated Mitochondrial Targeting on Human Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells

Despite recent improvements in treatment, ovarian cancer is still the leading cause of death from gynaecological malignancies. Today, marine mollusks are considered as natural source of new biologically and pharmacologically active compounds by scientists and the pharmaceutical industries. The aim of this study is to investigate the selective apoptotic effects of Turbo coronatus crude extract f...

Two - photon decay of the ls 2 s ISO state in 36 Kr 34 + produced by resonant transfer and excitation

The doubly exci ted 2s2p 1 P 1 level of Kr + populated via resonant transfer and excitation (RTE) feeds selectively the metastable ls2s 1S0 state which can only decay via sirnultaneous emission of two photons to the ground state ls2 1So. X-rayIX-ray coincidenee measurements in heavy ionatom collisions enable the direct measurement of the spectral distribution of the two-photon decay in He-like ...
